Curriculum

Currently, our school uses the Derbyshire, Charanga scheme of work for music however, in the Academic Year 2025-2026, we are working with The Birmingham Conservatoire to upskills staff knowledge and expertise and develop our Music Curriculum.

WIDER OPPORTUNITIES

In Year 3 nd 4 our children take part in a 20 week drumming programme led my MK Your Performance. The programme teaches them:

Technical Drumming Skills

• Tone

• Bilateral Coordination

• Stick/Hand Control

Core Musical Elements 

• Pulse and Tempo

• Rhythm and Syncopation

• Dynamics

• Structure and Notation

Composition and Ensemble Performance

MK Your Performance is a Chesterfield based music company who teach drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals. For all enquiries, please contact them on the email above. 

Matt Keeling of MK Your Performance also offers group drum lessons every Friday at Deer Park. These are £5 per session and are payable directly to Matt. You can sign your child up for lesson through school. 

 why do schools need a music development plan?

From 2024, the DFE are asking schools to publish a summary of their music development plan.  The summary will then be updated before the start of each new academic year.
It is intended that the summary will:

• raise awareness of our music development plan
• promote our music offer to parents and prospective parents
• give greater opportunity for us and our music hub to work together
